Meet Recap

The Dragon Girls golf team went into Tuesday’s final SEK League competition in Pittsburg at Crestwood CC with a lead and were able to maintain their margin with today’s tournament victory to clinch the SEK team championship. This was the dragons 3rd straight league championship.
The tournament today was shortened to a 9 hole competition instead of an 18 hole tournament due to the heavy rain and forecast of more rain. The dragons were lead by freshman Hannah Holloman’s score of 43 for Medalist, Sam Maceli’s 45 for 4th place, Jamie Van Wyck’s 46 for 5th and Sam Beykirch’s 52 for 11th. The team score of 186 lead to an eleven stroke victory.
Fort Scott’s Lauren Madison came in second with a 44 and Caney’s Lizzie Rogers was third with a 44.
Other dragons competing today were Natalee Brake – 52, Mary Thompson – 54
The other big story at today’s tournament was the final SEK team and individual competition. The other two SEK tournaments were held at Fort Scott and Parsons.
The Dragon Girls finished with a 371 for first place as a team, beating out Chanute by 49 strokes.Ft Scott’s Lauren Madison finished in first with a 130, beating out Pittsburg’s Samantha Maceli by 2 strokes. Chanute’s Jeryln Kustanporter was 3rd with 140, Pittsburg Jamie Van Wyck came in 4th with a 142. Pittsburg also took places 5, 6, 7 and 8 with Samantha Beykirk, Mary Thompson, Hannah Holloman and Natalee Brake.
Pittsburg placed all six of their SEK competitors in the top ten this season. It has been a remarkable stretch of tournaments won and the third straight SEK team victory means a great deal. The girls have improved their abilities and mental games tremendously. My hope is that their work pays off for us at our regional competition in two weeks. Which is going to be held at Crestwood CC in Pittsburg.
