On Thursday, March 18, the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association announced the 2021 KWCA Award winners. Mrs. Karen Odgers was named a 2021 KWCA Contributor of the Year and Mr. Rob Johnson a 2021 KWCA Middle School Coach of the Year.
In early March, the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association Executive Board held their Spring Board Meeting to finalize the 2021 KWCA Annual Award Winners. These winners will be recognized on Oct. 2 at the KWCA “Fritz Knorr” Awards and Hall of Fame Banquet.
“The Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association is excited to announce our 2021 State Wrestling Awards. This year we are honoring 55 individuals and organizations that go above and beyond the call in helping to lead, support, and participate in our great sport,” said KWCA President Doug Vander Linden of Burlington High School.
Rob has worked at USD 250 for seven years, coaching wrestling for one year as an assistant coach and three as the head coach. “Rob is a great asset to have as a member of our coaching staff.” Says Chris King, PCMS Assistant Principal and Activities Director, “He understands that the relationship that a coach makes with a student-athlete can have a positive lifelong impact. He pushes the beginning wrestler as well as those with several years of experience to do their best and become better wrestlers. He also does a great job of teaching our young men and women wrestlers what itis like to show true Dragon Excellence by the way we conduct ourselves every day. He is very deserving of this award and I am proud to have him as our head wrestling coach at PCMS.”
Odgers has been with USD 250 for 20 years with plans to retire this year. She was recently recognized at the last PHS home basketball game for her efforts in the district.
“Congratulations to Mrs. Karen Odgers on being honored with the “Contributor of the Year” in the state of Kansas by the KWCA (Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association). Karen’s tireless efforts during these unprecedented times to provide for our wrestling program have not gone unnoticed and are sincerely appreciated!” Says Jeff Staley, PHS Activities Director
USD 250 extends their congratulations to both Mr. Johnson and Mrs. Odgers. See the full list of award recipients here.
