Meet Recap

This past Thursday night the the PHS Wrestling team won the SEK League title for a second year in a row. PHS was seeded first and drew a bye first round. Second round Pittsburg beat Labette County handedly and Chanute beat Independence to make the finals on the other half of the bracket. The two teams have faced off for the league title for the last several years. Chanute has a young , talented squad and I knew coach Albright would have them come at us hard. For the first half of the dual Chanute had the advantage. However, Pittsburg’s upper weights closed the deal winning the team title 42-30. This Senior squad has done an outstanding job representing this program and Pittsburg High School, but their work is not quit finished. We now have our focus on regionals, our state qualifying tournament, this Friday the 17th in Leavenworth. From there, the top four will advance to the state tournament in Wichita February 24, 25. Varsity lineup; 106 Jordan Johnson 9th, 113 Open, 120 Reece Watson 10th, 126 Will Jameson 9th, 132 Caleb Blansett 11th, 138 A.J. Lair 11th, 145 Keyth Waltrip 12th, 152 Wes Jamson 12th, 160 Joseph Tallie 12th, 170 Hayden Still 11th, 182 Christian Hyde 12th, 195 Dylan Prince 12th, 220 Deveron Duncan 12th, 285 Kayne Hutchison 12th.
This past Saturday the J.V. squad traveled to Burlington for their biggest tournament of the season. The boys pulled a first place finish out of the 28 team tournament. Our best finish in this tournament to date. Many of the wrestlers received individual medals as well. Our J.V. group has been very tough all year often stepping it up and into the varsity line up. We have a tough varsity squad and seven of those boys will be graduating. The J.V. boys will have to replace these Seniors next year. Our numbers are strong and the boys are developing nicely. It’s a pleasure to coach a team that has good depth and it means something to make the varsity squad. J.V. lineup; 106 Blayne Anderson 9th, 120 A.J. Ortiz 9th, 126 Corbin Russell 12th/Zack Barber 10th/Caine Posa 9th, 132 Joseph Lee 9th/Braden Hamilton 12th/ Elijah Rux 9th, 138 David Green 11th, 145 Jonathan Smith 10th, 152 Kolton Darrow 12th/Noe Nuno 11th, 160 Channing Massey 10th/ Ben Blessent 10th/Jessie Stover 9th, 182 R.J.
