Meet Recap

The 5A Girls Golf competitin was held Monday at the Emporia Municipal Golf Course. The Dragon Girls golf team finished in 3rd place as a team with a team of only four girls. The normal competition team has 6 girls and the top four scores count. The dragon accomplished their score of 367 with only four scores, so each one had to count. The 5A state field has been dominated by the big city private schools for several years. While the Saint Thomas Aquinas team place first with a 336, the dragons were able to hold off Saint James Academy by one stroke and Mill Valley by three.
Freshmen Samantha Maceli had a 43 – 44 for an 87 and 11th place, senior Jamie Van Wyck finished with a 45 – 46 = 91 and tied for 16th place, junior Lauren Valenzuela shot a 44 – 49 for a 93 and tied for 20th place and freshmen Hannah Holloman finished witha 46 – 50 = 96 for 28th.
What a great day for the girls golf team and the dragons. The girls played really solid today and I could not be more proud. This is the first time ever that a girls golf team has placed in the state competition.
